Signage Requirements
- While the HSWA doesn't directly specify signage requirements, it mandates a safe working environment, which often necessitates signage as per regulations made under the Act.
- Employers must provide adequate information, instruction, training, and supervision to ensure the health and safety of employees, which may include signage as a means of communication.
Health and Safety (Safety Signs and Signals) Regulations 1996
The core signage regulation. Requires employers to provide safety signs where risks cannot be avoided or controlled by other means.
Signage Requirements
- Prohibition signs must be round with a black pictogram on a white background, red edging, and a red diagonal line.
- Warning signs must be triangular with a black pictogram on a yellow background and black edging.
Smoke-free (Signs) Regulations 2007 (as amended 2012)
Requires no-smoking signs in smoke-free premises and vehicles. Requirements relaxed in 2012.
Signage Requirements
- Display 'No Smoking' signs in a prominent position in all smoke-free premises and vehicles.
- Signs must be of a specified size, depending on the size and nature of the premises or vehicle.
